The Story Behind Calacatta Concrete

From a flood to a sustainable Quebec innovation

Béton Calacatta was born from a family story and a very real challenge.
My name is Carl Damphousse, and I've been a flooring installer and owner for over 20 years. In fact, I was born into this profession: my grandfather and father were also flooring professionals.

I grew up watching my clients' needs evolve… but also seeing the same problems come up again and again.

On August 9, 2024, severe flooding in Quebec changed everything.
Entire basements destroyed, floors sent to landfills, families left dejected.
It was on that day that I made a decision: to create a sustainable, elegant solution adapted to our Quebec conditions.

After months of testing, trials and failures, I developed a marbled self-leveling concrete capable of resisting water, remaining stable over time and enhancing residential spaces.
This is how Calacatta Concrete was born: the perfect alliance between the beauty of marble and the strength of concrete.

The Story Behind

Calacatta Concrete
From Flood to Innovation

Béton Calacatta (Calacatta Concrete) was born out of a family legacy and a very real challenge.
My name is Carl, installer and flooring retailer, and I have been working in this field for over 20 years. In fact, I was born into it: both my father and grandfather were in the trade as well. I grew up watching clients’ needs evolve… but also seeing the same problems return, again and again.

On August 9, 2024, severe floods struck our region. Like many, I witnessed entire basements destroyed and thrown away. Floors replaced time and time again, always vulnerable to water. That was the moment I decided to create a durable solution that would prevent my clients from reliving this scenario.

I embarked on a long journey of trial and error with the concrete products available on the market. But nothing truly met expectations: either too difficult to maintain, not durable enough, or unsuited to the realities of Quebec basements. After extensive research, experimentation, and refinement, I finally developed a floor that is stable, sealed, and finished with a unique marble-inspired look, combining strength with elegance.

Our Mission

The mission of Béton Calacatta is simple: to offer a floor that truly meets the needs of our reality. A floor that doesn’t get thrown away after water damage, but one that can be restored, repaired, and continue to serve.

Our goal is to give every client peace of mind, knowing their basement or garage will never again be a burden after a flood. It is also to help them achieve long-term savings, by avoiding costly and unnecessary replacements. And above all, it is to offer a solution that contributes to the value of their home, transforming a functional space into one that is elegant, refined, and durable.

Our Values

At Béton Calacatta, our values are deeply rooted in our Quebec and Canadian reality. Local pride is at the heart of our approach: every one of our products is designed and manufactured in Canada, using Canadian raw materials. Nothing is imported: every ingredient comes from here, and every step of production is carried out by Canadian craftsmen and partners.

This authenticity goes hand in hand with our commitment to durability. After seeing too many floors end up in landfills due to flooding, we chose to provide a solution that can be repaired, restored, and retain its value year after year.

We also believe in innovation, not as a trend but as a necessity. Every adjustment, every trial, every refinement has been guided by the desire to achieve a result that is concrete, stable, and effective. And finally, we emphasize aesthetics: because a basement or a garage should not be seen as a secondary space, but as a place where elegance and refinement also belong.

Our Vision

Our vision is to transform the way we perceive basement and garage floors. For too long, these spaces have been synonymous with cold, purely functional surfaces, with no aesthetic value or real durability. We want to change that.

With Béton Calacatta, we aim to become the Quebec and Canadian reference in decorative marble-style concrete. A solution that brings style to living spaces, enhances property value, and allows installers and retailers to offer an exclusive, high-end, and distinctive product.

A Responsible Commitment

Beyond aesthetics and performance, Béton Calacatta is part of a responsible approach. Every year, tons of damaged floors are torn out and sent to landfills after flooding. We believe it is possible to break this cycle.

Our solution, designed and manufactured 100% in Canada, not only helps reduce waste, but also strengthens the local economy by using exclusively Canadian raw materials. Nothing is imported: choosing Béton Calacatta (Calacatta Concrete) means supporting local expertise while investing in a more sustainable, responsible, and proud future.
